Old Bablake
MORE good timber frame work. This Hospital is another early Tudor foundation. Thomas Bond, founded it in 1506 as an almshouse for deserving old men. One of the said deserving old men, in 1619, made an attempt to poison all his seniors with a view to becoming “father of the Hospital.” Five of the seniors died and John Johnson, the criminal, committed suicide. The restoration of 1832 did not spoil the great gable—a fine design.
