St. Mary’s Hall

ST. Mary’s Hall belongs to the same period as the Cathedral spire. Apart from its weather-beaten stone (does any stone weather so picturesquely as Warwickshire sandstone?) the outside is a little heavy. Still the North window has the characteristic largeness of scale of perpendicular work. The 15th century was a time of growth and prosperity in the towns, and the merchants built church and ball spaciously. Many perpendicular buildings redeem the loss of charming early Gothic detail by grandiose design and fine outline. Of its kind this window is a fine one.
